Baby Garlando Update! :)

I had my (almost) 34 week appointment this afternoon. Baby Garlando is doing great and weighing in at 5 pounds 4 ounces! My cervix is still rotten but thankfully it's holding steady a little bit longer. If my FFN results come back negative on Friday (have to wait because of the holiday), I'm a FREE WOMAN! Woo hoo! :) Take a look at my sweet girl, I think she looks like her big sis!

Oven Mitts and Apron Set

The apron and oven mitts were going to be a Christmas present. However, my sneaky girl caught me finishing it up yesterday so I went ahead and gave it her. She keeps walking around the house saying "I need my mitts. Where are those silly mitts?" :)

A Coupla Kimonos

I saw this simple kimono wrap pattern and thought it was adorable. I made one for each of the girls.

Instead of the inside tie, I used a snap to make dressing easier. This was the first time I made my own bias tape because I didn't have any on hand. I'm glad I figured it out because it definitely expands design possibilities!

Onion Pattern

My blog friend, Astrid, had a great giveaway the other week for an Onion pattern and I was lucky enough to win!: 

I made the tunic in a European size 98 for Kate which turned out to be a bit large. The instructions (thankfully translated) were a breeze to follow. However, knits and I are fickle friends. The neckline ended up being too big and I used my serger to roll the hem because I am lazy! 

I just used knits I had, but if I were to do it again, I think a red yoke and ribbing would look better than the white. I plan to make the pants sometime in the future. It was still fun to sew and Kate seems to like it :) Thanks again, Astrid!

  

Reversible Baby Carrier Cover Tutorial!

In anticipation of Baby #2, we recently pulled out Kate's old Baby Bjorn. I noticed it's a bit faded and well, drabby looking. I looked online and you can buy a Bjorn cover if you want to shell out big bucks. Or... you could make one yourself and save lots of $$. I'll show you how :)

This cover will fit all Baby Bjorn® carriers, the Evenflo Snugli® Carrier, Jeep® 2 in 1 Baby Carrier, and the Infantino® Euro Rider Soft Baby Carrier.

 

Baby Carrier Cover Tutorial

1. Pull out your new, used, or borrowed baby carrier. Take off the straps so you just have the body of the carrier.

 

2. Find the center points (lengthwise) of the carrier and trace onto posterboard. Add 3/4" seam allowance (dotted line) around pattern. Be sure NOT to add seam allowance to the middle line (this will be our fold line).

3. Trace pattern onto two coordinating fabrics (be sure to fold fabric on fold line). Cut out.

4. Fold edges 5 edges 1/4" on wrong side of fabric. Fold again 1/4" and stitch close to the fold line.

 

5. Place both pieces right sides together. Pin and serge/sew using a 1/2" seam allowance. Remember not sew over areas you just top stitched!! If you sew, be sure to finish the edges with a zigzag or overcast stitch.


6. Turn right side out. Press. Insert baby carrier body. Reattach straps.

Kate calls this a "belly basket" - how cute is that? :)

Baby Garlando's First Quilt

I have been hand embroidering a lot lately since I have to stay put on the couch/bed. This quilt is for Baby Garlando. The front is entirely scrap fabric and my lovely neighbor Lisa went to the craft store to get me the backing (THANKS, Lisa!!!). It's bright and funky, but I have a feeling Baby Garlando will be too :) Thanks for looking!
 

A Matching Quilt and Pillow for Baby Mommy

Kate loves playing with baby dolls, especially "Baby Mommy." I made this cute doll quilt and matching pillow for one of Kate's Christmas presents. I think she'll love it! If you're interested, here's a great tutorial.

This is the first time I've done free motion quilting and I really like how it turned out :)

Baby Garlando Update

I had another appointment this afternoon. The baby is head down and moving around like crazy! My doctor said as long as the next FFN test is negative and things look decent, I can get off bedrest at Christmas which will be 34 weeks!! Woo hoo :) Only 15 days.

31 weeks baby update

I just got home from a doctor's appointment. Measurements are a bit worse than last week and I got a firm command not to get up from the bed/couch unless absolutely necessary. The results of the fetal fibronectin (FFN) test that predicts labor in the next 14 days should be back Monday morning (update, they are negative!).

Great news is the baby is growing well and weighs about 3 pounds 15 ounces. Keep growing big and strong, little girl! :)
